Television and NBA Star Lamar Odom Arrested for DUI

After a week of rumors swirling Lamar Odom’s recent troubling behavior, the basketball player has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after driving too slowly on the 101 Freeway.

The arrest occurred in a rumor filled week which centered around allegations that Odom is cheating on wife Khloe Kardashian, which later developed into allegations that the basketball star had been using crack cocaine.

Early Friday morning, Odom was going about 50 mph when he was pulled over on the 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley. California Highway Patrol officials said he was driving in a “serpentine manner” and actually continued past three exits while authorities tried to pull him over. He showed signs of intoxication and couldn’t pass field sobriety tests, a CHP report said. He refused all chemical tests at Van Nuys jail.

A year ago, Khloe reportedly pressured Lamar into rehab in San Diego, TMZ reports, where he stayed for only three weeks but managed to clean up in time for his season with the Clippers. Kardashian Odom has reportedly kept the alleged circumstances a secret from her notoriously close family until recently.

Odom was arrested just before 4 a.m., booked around 5 a.m. and not released until around 8:30 a.m. Odom’s bail was set at $15,000, according to L.A. Sheriff’s Department records. Odom is due in court September 27 for the DUI arrest.

Redlands Teacher Pleads Guilty to Sex Charges

Former Redlands teacher, Laura Elizabeth Whitehurst, recently pleaded guilty to six counts of felony sex charges of sex with a minor.

Whitehurst allegedly gave birth to a child police say was fathered by her student. Whitehurst was an adviser at Citrus Valley High School to the then-16-year-old boy, who is now 17, and believed to be the father of her child.

The victim’s mother reported the relationship to school officials, who contacted Redlands Police. The sexual relationship allegedly began in the summer of 2012 and continued for nearly a year. Two more students have been identified as having been in sexual relationships with Whitehurst, but other charges have not been filed.

There were questions about whether the school district violated the state’s “mandated reporter law” because it did not notify police about an unsubstantiated rumor about the teacher prior to her arrest. However, no charges were filed against the Redlands Unified School District by the District Attorney’s Office.

During the sentencing, the courtroom heard from the victim and his mother. Both asked the judge not to grant Whitehurst the plea deal, though both the victim and his mother had been in agreement with the district attorney’s plea deal prior to the hearing.

Whitehurst pleaded guilty to six counts of felony sex charges. Under the deal, Whitehurst will receive one year in jail and must register as a sex offender for life. She will also be under probation for five years, and she will have to forfeit her teaching credentials.

If you are accused of a sexual offense, you may not only serve jail time, but you may also be required to register as a sex offender. If charged you or a loved one is charged with a sexual crime or offense, it is important to be represented by an aggressive and experienced criminal defense attorney

Chris Brown Will Not Face Charges in Alleged Anaheim Club Assault

In June 2013 the famous R&B artist Chris Brown was accused of allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old Anaheim club-goer, Deanna Gines, inside the Orange County nightclub, Heat Ultra Lounge.

Gines alleged that Brown pushed her during a June 22 concert at Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim. The case, which could have resulted in a misdemeanor charge, was referred to the Anaheim city attorney’s office for review.

In July, Gines sued Brown and Royal Entertainment Inc., which owns the nightclub, claiming that she had been battered, assaulted and suffered emotional distress. She claimed Brown shoved her to the ground, injuring her left knee. After the incident, security kicked her out of the club, she claimed.

As of August 27, Anaheim prosecutors have decided not to file charges against singer Chris Brown over allegations that he assaulted a woman at a nightclub near Disneyland in June, according to a city spokeswoman.

As reported by the Orange County Register, the office “declined to file charges in this case based on review of the circumstances and evidence,” city spokeswoman Ruth Ruiz said in a written statement. According to Sgt. Bob Dunn, a factor that motivated the decision to decline to file charges was that two women who were with Gines when the alleged incident occurred failed to contact detectives.

Brown was famously convicted of assaulting on-again, off-again girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He was sentenced to five years probation for the attack and 1000 hours of community service.

OC Woman Sentenced to Prison for Sexually Assaulting Teens

Kathia Maria Davis, a Laguna Niguel woman, was convicted of sexually assaulting two teenage boys who played hockey with a teen relative and sentenced this week.

In August 2012, a jury found Davis guilty of four felony counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old boy and two misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. However, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on charges related to the alleged assault of a 14-year-old.

Prosecutors said that between 2010 and 2011, Davis had unlawful intercourse with the 16-year-old a number of four times and provided him with alcohol. The 16-year-old told his mother about the sexual relationship with Davis, and the alcohol she gave him, and she contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials said the victim notified his mother of the relationship, prompting a sheriff’s inquiry. During an investigation, authorities discovered there was a second and possibly third victim. This led to the discovery the the 14-year-old boy.

Prosecutors said that on one occasion between April 2006 and April 2008, Davis let her teenage relative and the 16-year-old guest drink alcohol during a sleepover at her home. After the other teens feel asleep on the floor, Davis kissed and sexually assaulted the 14-year old, prosecutors said. In June 2013, a separate jury found her guilty of four felony counts of lewd acts on a child in the case of the 14-year-old boy.

Davis was sentenced Tuesday to 16 months in prison, followed by three years of parole. Davis will also have to register as a lifetime sex offender as part of her sentence, according to a statement from the Orange County district attorney’s office.

If you are accused of a sexual offense, you may not only serve jail time, but you may also be required to register as a sex offender. If charged you or a loved one is charged with a sexual crime or offense, it is important to be represented by an aggressive and experienced criminal defense attorney. Orange County Man Sentenced in Counterfeit Pin Scheme

When visiting Disneyland, it’s not hard to notice the extensive trading occurring between park visitors and with park employees. Disney pins are sold in many gift shops, and some of the most collectible pins come with a heft price. The pins are extraordinarily popular among collectors, with some rare pins selling online for more than $1,000.

Larry James Allred, a twice-convicted rapist, ran a counterfeit pin scheme in which he illegally imported counterfeit Disney pins from China and sold them on the Internet. From January 2010 to April 2011, Allred and his co-conspirator, Robert Smyrak, sent actual, collectible Disney pins to a manufacturer in China. The manufacturer copied the pins and shipped the fakes to Allred and Smyrak, which the pair sold online. The pair sold more than a million pins in bulk for less than $1 a pin.

Authorities uncovered the scheme in February 2011 when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a shipment at Los Angeles International Airport containing more than 150 pounds of fake Disney pins. Anaheim police arrested the two in April 2011.

Allred was sentenced to eight years in prison this week and ordered to pay more than $200,000 in restitution, authorities said. Symark, of Anaheim, was sentenced to one year in jail and to three years probation. Each pleaded guilty to one felony count of trademark infringement. Allred also pleaded guilty to sentence enhancements for property loss of more than $200,000.

A criminal conviction is costly. It is possible that you may serve time in prison, disrupting your career and family life. Also, its possible that you will have to pay heavy restitution fines, resulting in financial woes. Your record may be stained by such convictions, and your reputation may suffer.
