Black Friday Violence is Seen Throughout the Nation

Shoppers eager to take advantage of Black Friday deals early Thanksgiving night left the holiday cheer at home. Several incidents of violence and theft occurred throughout the country Thursday night.

In Las Vegas, a shopper was shot by a suspect who attempted to steal a TV from him. The suspect brandished a gun, took possession of the TV, and tried to return to his vehicle. The victim followed the suspect and was shot in the leg while trying to recover his property.

In Chicago, a police office was dragged several feet by a car. An officer responding to a call of alleged shoplifting followed the suspect to his car when the car started to move as the officer was half inside it. A backup officer then shot the driver of the car.

Closer to home, at least three people got into a fight in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in Rialto, California because shoppers were cutting in line. More than a dozen police officers swarmed the retail giant at the Wal-Mart on Riverside Ave after an officer was injured trying to break up a fight between two men.

All the people involved in the fights were taken into custody, but one of the men involved in the fight outside was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and felony assault on a peace officer. Police said he was allegedly kicking the other man in the head when he was on the ground.

Raymond Rice, 25, of San Bernardino and Chennel Smith, of Fontana, were arrested after the confrontation outside the store.

Chris Brown Will Not Face Charges in Alleged Anaheim Club Assault

In June 2013 the famous R&B artist Chris Brown was accused of allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old Anaheim club-goer, Deanna Gines, inside the Orange County nightclub, Heat Ultra Lounge.

Gines alleged that Brown pushed her during a June 22 concert at Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim. The case, which could have resulted in a misdemeanor charge, was referred to the Anaheim city attorney’s office for review.

In July, Gines sued Brown and Royal Entertainment Inc., which owns the nightclub, claiming that she had been battered, assaulted and suffered emotional distress. She claimed Brown shoved her to the ground, injuring her left knee. After the incident, security kicked her out of the club, she claimed.

As of August 27, Anaheim prosecutors have decided not to file charges against singer Chris Brown over allegations that he assaulted a woman at a nightclub near Disneyland in June, according to a city spokeswoman.

As reported by the Orange County Register, the office “declined to file charges in this case based on review of the circumstances and evidence,” city spokeswoman Ruth Ruiz said in a written statement. According to Sgt. Bob Dunn, a factor that motivated the decision to decline to file charges was that two women who were with Gines when the alleged incident occurred failed to contact detectives.

Brown was famously convicted of assaulting on-again, off-again girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He was sentenced to five years probation for the attack and 1000 hours of community service.
